Thread & Matter
Pair Matter devices over Thread, with the gateway's own border router, or over your network.
Two pieces
- Thread is the low‑power radio network. The gateway includes a Thread border router: install Thread, and it forms a network (Network active) that Matter‑over‑Thread devices join.
- Matter is the standard the devices speak. Install Matter; the status reads Controller ready.
Pair a Matter device
- In Matter › Devices, tap + Add device.
- Enter the device's 11‑digit pairing code, or scan its QR code (it starts with
MT:). - Keep the device close to the gateway for the first pairing. Thread devices join the gateway's own network automatically; IP devices must be on the same network as the gateway.
- Name it, put it in a room.
Contact sensors, buttons, thermostats, lights, plugs and locks all appear in Rooms with the same tiles as everything else. Button presses become Workflow triggers.
Thread network
The Thread page shows the network topology (which node routes through which), lets you name nodes, and shows the network Dataset to share with another border router if you ever need one.

That is the other direction, the Bridge tab: see Smart home apps.
Tips
- Battery devices sleep; their tile shows the last value with its age.
- If a device won't pair, factory‑reset it (see its manual), wait a minute and try again.
